ASID awards $23,000 in scholarships to academia

The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Foundation has announced recipients of its annual ASID Foundation Scholarships and Awards. The awards, open to both ASID members and non-members, have been a part of the ASID Foundation since its founding in 1975.

The Irene Winifred Eno Grant provides financial assistance to individuals or groups engaged in the creation of an educational program or an interior design research project dedicated to health, safety and welfare.

Winner: Caren S. Martin, Ph.D., CID, ASID, IIDA – University of Minnesota. Project: Examining Supportive Educational Environments for Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This study documents and analyzes the link the between the psychological, social, physiological and educational needs of children with ASD from Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) through the sixth grade.

The Joel Polsky Academic Achievement Award honors an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student’s interior design research or thesis project.

Winner: Emily Dyer, Student ASID, Endicott College. Thesis project: Dwelling in the Home: Designing for Mindfulness, Connection and Well-being. This study investigates how to design for mindfulness in the home in a world dominated by technology.

The Joel Polsky Prize recognizes outstanding academic contributions to the discipline of interior design through literature or visual communication.

Winners: Buie Harwood, FASID, CID, FIDEC; Bridget A. May Ph.D., Allied ASID, IDEC and Curt Sherman, ASID, FIDEC. Publication: Architecture and Interior Design: An Integrated History to the Present. This book offers an integrated and interdisciplinary survey of architecture, interiors, furniture and decorative arts through the centuries.

The ASID Foundation also awards several Legacy Scholarship awards each year to undergraduate and graduate students of interior design.

Legacy Scholarship for Graduate Students winner: Stephanie Rodriquez, Parsons, The New School
