IIDA announces winners of healthcare design competition

Posted on Tuesday, August 21, 2012.

Outstanding originality and excellence in the planning and design of healthcare interior spaces characterize the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) winners of the inaugural Healthcare Interior Competition. The winners of the competition were selected from over 100 submissions from around the globe by an expert panel of interior design professionals, who specialize in healthcare interiors.

The jury included Debbie Gregory, Associate IIDA, Allied ASID, Co-founder & President, NIHD, Senior Clinical Consultant, Smith Seckman Reid, Inc., in Nashville, Tennessee; Amy Lopez, IIDA, AAHID, Vice President, Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. in Houston, Texas; and Peggy Noakes, FIIDA, AAHID, LEED AP, EDAC, VP, Director of Consulting for American Art Resources in Houston, Texas.

Winners were announced in four categories that included Ambulatory Care Centers, Hospice Care, Hospitals, and Senior Living & Residential Health, Care, and Support Facilities. The Best of Competition was selected from the Best of Category winners. The winners will be featured in the October issue of Healthcare Design magazine.

“The quality of entries and depth of design talent demonstrated in the project submissions was exemplary and indicative of the breadth of complexity involved in creating effective and efficient healing spaces, “ said Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, Executive Vice President and CEO of IIDA. “In selecting the winning projects, the IIDA panel of judges worked to bring together their knowledge of the industry and advances in the medical field, a sense of what is relevant design, and a search for what is original. The project solutions in each category are true representatives of the power of design to promote and protect health and well-being.”
