Pierre Deux closes stores nationwide, files bankruptcy

Posted on Tuesday, June 28, 2011.

French furnishings company Pierre Deux shuttered all 23 stores nationwide abruptly last Thursday morning. According to inside sources, employees were told to pack their belongings and exit the building immediately.
The company has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, which provides for liquidation of assets. Nine years earlier, owners filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in New York.

Washington Post Home & Design Staff Writer Jura Koncius wrote on Twitter, "Tried to call @PierreDeux at Fairfax Square. No answer + not taking messages. Sad to see such an old retailer with a quality product go."
Pierre Le Vec and Pierre Moulin opened the company’s first Greenwich Village shop in 1967, bringing the passion for French art de vivre and the French country way to America. They imported antique furniture from the provinces and sold curtains, pillows and fabrics to accent the furniture.

President & Creative Director, Madame Cointreau
The tradition carried on with current owners Hedwige Cointreau de Bouteville, President and Creative Director of Pierre Deux, and her husband André Cointreau, President of Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School.
