San Francisco Sense of Place
The client's brief was "completely strip the existing apartment out and give me an environment that is sophisticated and flattering, and gives me a sense of where we are". This gave me the opportunity to relay the foot print and create a completely new aesthetic.

San Francisco Sense of Place
The client's brief was "completely strip the existing apartment out and give me an environment that is sophisticated and flattering, and gives me a sense of where we are". This gave me the opportunity to relay the foot print and create a completely new aesthetic.
My first main objective was to focus all primary spaces towards the bay and absorb the beautiful quality of light. Sydney has a unique color pallet. When concentrated light is reflected from its glorious harbor it "dances", so I complimented this with a soft, textured interior - one that was quite tailored but romantic.
I designed many of the pieces of furniture for the apartment so as to maintain the correct scale. Pieces where also purchased so as not to give the rooms a total singular signature.
The kitchen and bathrooms where designed to be open living spaces not utility spaces. Glass vanity vessels where up lit to give a shimmering "swimming pool" effect, all visible through glass walls. The kitchen was detailed to be an extended entertainment space connected to the open living/dinning room. It was wet bar as well as buffet for casual "Sydney" entertaining.
The private lift lobby was housed in black iron fret work walls and gate, anchored down by a Donghia ruby Murano glass chandelier. From the moment the lift doors opened you glimpsed the bay and felt the environment hug you. Carpets and fabrics where customized to blend. Upholstered walls in the master suite where sewn into the drapes to seamlessly run and wrap the room only opening to frame the bay below.
