Architectural Record

Editorial Overview

Complete coverage of great architecture of all sizes and building types in the United States and internationally, in city centers and off the beaten path. Commercial, institutional, residential, from biggest to smallest—Architectural Record covers the latest currents and best practices. Nearly 300,000 professionals rely on Record to bring them the profession each month.

Every issue of Architectural Record explores significant current projects—large and small—in great detail. Projects are chosen for their importance in design, process or technology and include a list of products and brands used. Each issue profiles new and noteworthy products. Project reports also feature products in use and source manufacturers. The December issue features our annual Products Reports, a virtual catalog of the most interesting and useful new building products for architects, specifiers and designers. Architect-designed houses are among the most popular projects featured in Architectural Record. In particular, our annual Record Houses issue is the profession’s benchmark for cutting edge residential design. Ninety-three percent of architects are involved in interior design. That’s why every issue explores interior projects. Quarterly Interior editorial sections feature expanded coverage of significant interior projects. September’s Annual Record Interiors is a showplace for outstanding architect-designed interiors and innovative product applications. Monthly product briefs and product literature sections highlight new interior products.

Submission Requests

We will not consider material that is submitted to several publications simultaneously, with the exception of books for review, exhibitions, news, and products. In committing a project for publication as a feature, we will request exclusive first publication among our U.S. competitors. We do not publish unsolicited manuscripts. We also discourage materials written by second-party ghostwriters or PR firms. The vast majority of feature articles in this magazine are staff written or commissioned to known freelancers. Pieces submitted by outside authors are rarely used. Try to present the reasons your project should be of interest to our readers, and clearly present your ideas in a short, direct narrative—avoid flowery, inflated descriptions—the project will speak for itself. Internationally, only 100 projects per year make it to the pages of Architectural Record.
