AD’s new editor in chief hosts live Facebook introduction
Jun 22, 2016

In a livestream session yesterday on Architectural Digest’s Facebook page, the magazine's new editor in chief, Amy Astley, introduced viewers to her office and her assortment of books, artwork and decorative desktop items, as well as providing design tips and a glimpse into her decade-plus-long experience in the design industry.

Astley, who replaced former editor Margaret Russell at the publication last month, shared about her career as well as her office design (of which she said, “It looks a little more like a home than an office”). Having begun her career first at House & Garden before moving on to Vogue and later serving as a founding editor of Teen Vogue, her arrival at AD is a return to an original passion. “I’ve come full circle being back in decorating and design,” she said.

Astley also shared seven of her favorite office pieces, among them, design, decorating, fashion and history books; a wicker tray with pens, pencils and decorative objects like a personalized Hermès tape measure; and a collection of ballerina photographs, including one of Misty Copeland. Of each decorative item, she said, “As I sit at my desk and work, I can see the color and the patterns. It just gives me a little boost of joy!”
