Interior designer Adrienne Neff launched her first collection of handmade wallpapers, Uzu, exclusively through the Holland & Sherry showroom (www.hollandandsherry.com) in New York’s D&D Building in Winter 2009. The wallpaper collection, Uzu, is inspired by ancient and Neolithic decorative arts from around the world. They celebrate the universal symbols of organic growth, rejuvenation and renewal: water, earth, clay, rock, and vegetation. Uzu or “spiral water” in Japanese pays homage to 17th century Japanese ceramics. Jagged Agate is an abstract interpretation of the patterns formed by cut agate rock; Yamanoma or “hillside” and evokes the spirit of 16th century Japanese screens; Renjyu or “spiral repeat” is inspired by Japanese Neolithic pottery designs found ca 2,000 B.C.; Giant Onion is an abstract geometric celebration of the humble onion. Two design versions are available; Closed Onion and Open Onion; Acoma is inspired by Pueblo Indian ceramic water jars circa 1,000 A.D. The papers are custom made to order locally by hand in a boutique design factory in Brooklyn, NY. Each paper is created using 18th century printing techniques. All paints are water-based which are lower in VOC emissions than oil/solvent based paints. Paints are remixed and reused on an as needed basis, reducing waste. All of the methods of production are friendly to the environment and all materials are purchase locally. “I have worked with Holland & Sherry for over 10 years. I first met Bryan Dicker, who is the President of their Interiors Department, when I worked for the antiques dealer Liz O'Brien. We fell in love with Holland & Sherry fabrics and Bryan. Since then many things have changed, but Holland & Sherry’s smart, savvy, caring customer service and exquisite quality has not.” Designers can order wallpaper cutting samples along with product information online through the web site: www.TODL.com as of December 3rd, 2009.
