Abitare il Tempo, the Verona, Italy-based furniture fair, will bestow its annual prize upon Alberto Alessi, President of Alessi, for his contributions to the development of design as an ethical and aesthetic activity intended to raise the quality of life.
Alessi has pursued a personal and innovative vision of the role of his company, making it one of the great names in international design, according to the awards committee members Carlo Amadori, Vanni Pasca and Luca Scacchetti.
The oldest in the third generation of the family, Alessi has developed an innovative idea of the role of a design-led company since 1970, constructing a wide range of collaborations with architects and designers worldwide. He has made Alessi one of the most significant names in Italian and international design, and a company that continues to tackle the future with an innovative spirit.
Since its inception in 2002, the award has been given to Ettore Sottsass, Maddalena de Padova, Pierluigi Cerri, and in 2005, to Vico Magistretti and Michele De Lucchi; in 2006, to Ingo Maurer, then to Alessandro Mendini, in 2008 to the entrepreneur Rolf Fehlbaum, and in 2009 to Gillo Dorfles.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Abitare il Tempo, which takes place September 16-20, 2010.
