Created by the American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD) with a mission to promote design quality and recognize talent, the Pinnacle Awards have been honoring industry leaders each fall at High Point Market since 1995.
This year’s 18th awards ceremony was hosted by interior designer Alexa Hampton and Furniture/Today editor-in-chief Ray Allegrezza, and awarded designers across the categories of tables, dining, storage, upholstery, lighting and accessories among others.
The winners, products and judges' descriptions are as follows:
Occasional Tables: Aviator by Kim Price, ASFD for KAVANTE, Inc.
The Aviator Cocktail Table was deemed “a clear winner” by the judges as an outstanding contemporary design. The judges lauded the availability of custom sizes and finishes as a bonus for consumers and interior designers.
Casual Dining: Skeletal by Mandy Shanahan, ASFD for Phillips Collection
The judges felt that Skeletal’s lightweight, airy design along with the creative use of mixed materials provides a fresh approach to casual dining.
Formal Dining: Cabinetmaker’s Cherry by Robert Mulder for Harden Furniture
The judges gave their highest marks to the designer for his relaxed approach to formal dining in Cabinetmaker’s Cherry.
Stationary Upholstery: Black Beauty by Christopher Sandomenico for Caracole
A modern approach on classic Windsor styling is taken in the Black Beauty chair. The judges applauded the proper scale of the frame as well as the world-class combination of materials.
Leather Upholstery: Miller Chair by Jessica Green for American Leather
The judges praise American Leather’s expansion of lighter scale frames with the Miller Chair, which has sleek legs and a comfortable frame.
Home Lighting: Cavalett by David Kitts, ASFD; David Martin, ASFD; Zach Pyle, ASFD for Hubbardton Forge
This design team has taken the hand-forged tradition of Hubbardton Forge to a new highpoint with Cavaletti. The sculptural, jewelry-like use of metal helps the fixture resemble a mobile, but notably with delicate detail.
Home Accessories: Zahra Collection by Satya Tiwari for Surya
The judges saluted the fact that area rugs have become a mandatory element in accessorizing homes today with the highest marks for the Zahra Collection for Surya. Another winning component of the product line is the outstanding use of color.
Bedroom: Vintage by Richard Schroeder, ASFD; Denis Kissane, ASFD; Gary Hokanson, ASFD for Stanley Furniture
As the collection name suggests, the design team applies nice modern lines on classic pieces in the Vintage bedroom for Stanley Furniture. The complicated, multi-faceted finish exudes a timeless appeal.
Major Collections: Chin Hua by Zagaroli & Company; David Vanderbloemen; Scott Goodson for Century Furniture
Charlie Zagaroli, David Vanderbloemen and Scott Goodson breathe new life into the Chin Hua collection for Century Furniture with “blow-you-away” finishes. There’s an exceptional, wide range of materials utilized in the collection, including exotic woods in intricate detail and a full range of custom hardware.
