Architect-designer Ali Tayar dies at 57

Iconic New York-based architect and designer Ali Tayar has died, reported Interior Design. The Istanbul-born Tayar, who was renowned for designing and building “some of the world’s most beautiful interiors, layering luxurious details onto standardized, Erector-set-like parts,” ran the firm Parallel Design Architecture up until his death last week.

Tayar, who studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, began practicing in New York in 1993, earning a reputation as a residential and commercial designer. He was also known for furniture and storage designed for those spaces. His work appeared in shows at the Museum of Modern Art and the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. He was named one of the Emerging Voices of the Architectural League of New York in 2002.
