“The Design Futures Council Lifetime Achievement Award is for extraordinary accomplishments that elevate and advance the profession of architecture and design. Art Gensler has built a firm that exemplifies the perfect balance of artistic, technical and business excellence,” said DFC chairman James P. Cramer. “Gensler has helped define the way we practice and run firms today. He continues to serve as an inspiration to the profession.”

Gensler is now 5,000 employees strong and spans 46 locations, with billings of $1 billion plus. Founder Gensler is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and of the International Interior Design Association, as well as a professional member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He is also a charter member of Interior Design magazine’s Hall of Fame, and a recipient of IIDA’s Star Award, Ernst & Young LLP’s Lifetime Achievement Award and the Cornell Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

"I am honored to receive this recognition from the Design Futures Council. Through their DesignIntelligence publications and research and their leadership summits, the DFC has brought together and educated thought leaders of the built environment,” said Gensler.

The only other DFC Lifetime Achievement Award was dedicated to Gene Kohn of Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates last year.
