Urban Archaeology (UA) will be auctioning off over 700 architectural artifacts at its historic TriBeCa offices (at 143 Franklin St.) on March 27 and 28. The sale will be conducted by New York City-based auction house Guernsey’s.
Urban Archaeology has spent more than 40 years working to save historic architectural elements from destruction. Its offices in NYC, Bridgehampton, Boston and Chicago resemble museums rather than showrooms, and have offered items ranging from outdoor statuary to wrought-iron estate gates and everything in between.

The Urban Archaeology Unreserved Auction includes items by Edgar Brandt, Samuel Yellin and Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, and from institutions like St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Yale University and The Plaza and St. Regis hotels. Also available, a 1930 Art Deco pendant light from the Chrysler Building, and a 1890 Tufts Syrup Locker, which held flavored syrups for soda fountains, owned by Ohio pharmacist and community leader Charles Rollin McCulloch. For those who want a piece of international history but cannot find space the circa-1900 Teutonic brass Austrian Eagle Ornament, which originally hung on a staircase in the New York City Austrian Embassy, is also available.

The auction will take place on March 27 and 28 from 1 p.m. at Urban Archaeology. A public preview will be held March 24 to 26 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Internet bidding is available on liveauctioneers.com.
