Mar 30, 2016

Impressive introductions will be the highlight of at High Point Market, coming April 16 to 20. Jean-Louis Deniot, John Robshaw, Anthony Baratta and other designers will unveil hotly anticipated collections, as designers, buyers, manufacturers and media gladly overrun the small North Carolina town known for its big furniture and design business. As usual, product introductions, designer panels, educational seminars, tours and parties abound.

Introductions will abound: kate spade new york home for Kravet; John Robshaw for Duralee; Barry Goralnick’s Capsule Collection for Vanguard Furniture; Michael Berman for Theodore Alexander; Into the Garden by Madcap Cottage for Robert Allen @ Home; and Cynthia Rowley for Hooker Furniture are just a handful of the most notable in a litany of those planned for High Point. Be sure to check out the Jean-Louis Deniot collection premiering at Baker Furniture (the launch will be celebrated with a caviar and Champagne reception on April 15, from 6 to 8 p.m.).

Thomasville’s collection with Anthony Baratta, featuring 50 pieces of bedroom, dining and occasional furniture and upholstery; Barclay Butera’s two travel-influenced collections for Eastern Accents; and Julia Buckingham’s capsule collection for Feizy Rugs’ new Haute Trends Collection are also making heralded premieres this season.

In EAL’s latest video series, “My Scoop,” New York–based designers share what’s showing up on their radar for Market (see below). When we interviewed Alexa Hampton in her Madison Avenue office, she told EAL, “Designers go to Market the way a chef would go to a farmers’ market to get ingredients.” She said she is most excited for the Michael Aram and kate spade debuts. “You get to see the zeitgeist of the design community at any given moment.... It’s also a great place to simply be inspired!”

Thom Filicia, who is adding new furniture to his collection with Vanguard this Market (including a bed, chair, bar cabinet and more), as well as Safavieh and Eastern Accents pieces, offers newcomers tips on navigating the event: “Look at High Point the same way you’d look at going to summer camp. Get really excited about going, change of scenery, new group of friends, old friends!”

Laura Kirar is looking forward to handcrafted pieces by Arteriors and furniture by John Robshaw for Duralee.

This Market, designer Celerie Kemble will debut new dining collection pieces, including a table, chair and buffet for Henredon, as well as new fabrics and colors for her outdoor furniture line for Brown Jordan. She also promises recently created products designed with a new material: a tightly woven cane with silver metal.

Some of the notable workshops, panels and tours include: a Houzz University workshop with Lauren Gold of Houzz; the Antiques Diva-led tour of the Antique & Design Center; Style Spotter talks and tours; and a designer-packed panel on livable spaces with Anthony Baratta, Mark D. Sikes and Susan Hable.
