Barneys holiday window features Studio Job installation
Dec 15, 2016

European design and art atelier Studio Job has debuted a holiday window display in collaboration with Barneys New York. The installation, on display at their Madison Avenue flagship now through January 2, offers a selection of items from Studio Job Gallery, which will also be on view and available for sale in the store.

Focusing on “Love” as their theme, Studio Job took inspiration from the iconic 1970s television show The Love Boat. In the display, made in partnership with interactive designers Invisible Light Network, silhouettes of people kissing—alternating between two men, a man and woman, and two women—are projected onto a 7-foot boat.

“We first met Barneys’s creative director, Dennis Freedman, this spring, during the opening of our exhibition at the Museum of Arts and Design,” says Studio Job founders Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel. “We clicked instantly and started talking about doing a project together. The resulting installation is a truly absurd, surreal, Dada-esque cruise ship presented in all the theatrical splendor of Barneys’s flagship windows, literally packed with too many ideas to explain and too many (mixed) messages to understand.”

In addition, Barneys commissioned Studio Job to create its “Love Peace Joy”–themed signature graphics that will be used across all of their 27 U.S. locations during the holiday season.
