Behind the scenes with Bravo's Million Dollar Decorators (Cont.)
May 27, 2011

The Editor at Large had the opportunity to preview the full first episode of Bravo's Million Dollar Decorators prior to its scheduled airing May 31 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET), and speak with a few of the 'Decorators' about the experience.
Yesterday we chatted with Mary McDonald and Jeffrey Alan Marks, and today we're hearing from Nathan Turner, Kathryn Ireland and Martyn Lawrence Bullard.
What was the most memorable moment during filming?
Martyn
: I had an amazing time at my award ceremony. I unbelievably was voted International Designer of the year during filming the show, and a huge award ceremony and mad party was thrown for me. Complete with Taylor Dayne performing , drag Queens dancing, Downtown Julie Brown comparing, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne presenting me the award and a shining array of celebrity guests and friends attending. Truly the highlight of my career and all caught on camera for Bravo!
Kathryn: Having all my boys in the kitchen cooking my birthday dinner
Nathan: I enjoyed filming with Mary. We are really close friends so it was fun sharing this crazy experience with her…we had some funny moments together in HighPoint NC where I was showing my Nathan Turner for Elite Leather collection.
What were you most surprised by in the final edit?
Martyn: I was most surprised at a fellow cast member's assistant throwing a fabric of mine away, showing very bad judgement as that particular fabric just won "Best of the Best fabric of the year." Ah well, there's no accounting for bad taste!
Kathryn: How fat I looked on camera!  It's certainly inspired betting into really good shape and losing 10 lbs!!
Nathan: Since I've only seen the first episode I don’t know…so far so good…no suprises.
Will the show help the interior design industry? If so, how?
Martyn: I believe the show will help people understand the process of the design industry and how it all works. It should be very educational to our viewers showing not only the design creativity but also the business side of it and the incredible hard work that goes into creating a dream interior. It will, through this education, open up people's minds to design and the intricacies of this luxurious service industry. It is a service industry and we are here to service our clients' every decorative need.
Kathryn: Yes it will certainly help. You get a first hand view of how we work. As there is no text book way of designing, its interesting to see how individuals navigate the design process.
Nathan
: I hope so! I think everyone involved is so talented, so you will really get to see some beautiful projects, and all the hard work that goes in to creating them.
What do you have planned for the premiere?
Martyn: I'm throwing a private screening party for my fellow cast members, my staff and my clients, celebrities, and friends who appeared on the show with me in the private VIP screening room at the Soho House, LA. Its going to be a champagne toasting riotous laughter filled night!
