Nov 30, 2009

Color experts at BEHR Paints introduce a 2010 Design and Color Trends guide, showing classic elements fused with contemporary flair. 2010 color "personalities" run the gamut from bright to intriguing, cool to neutral, and subtle to complex, but all emphasizing comfort, ease and functionality. "Our new trends offer expressions of boundless adaptability. Colors and designs today must have longevity as people plan to live with their purchases longer,” says Erika Woelfel, Director of Color at BEHR Paints. “Whether elegant or edgy, new design goals are possible within the styles of romantic eclecticism, upscale country, assembly line elegant, and contemporary soft.” This season’s designs and color trends unite in contrasts. BEHR has identified four distinctive trends: Soft Structure – the softer side of modern, Artisan Voyage – a vibrant cultural exploration, Dark Glamour – a glamorous take on industrial style and Farm House Craft – a fusion of urban and rural. These styles have been mixed in a backdrop of breathtaking hues, from brilliant jewel tones to smoky blacks. Folk art blends with fine art and retro design with reclaimed detail. Decor themes and design tips featured in BEHR’s 2010 Design and Color Trend card include: 1. Soft Structure – Pale grays and tone on tone white in a contemporary setting are relaxed and calming. 2. Artisan Voyage – The discovery of what makes life special is found in eclectic treasures collected from flea markets or global bazaars. Colors are optimistic, spicy, and eccentric. 3. Dark Glamour – Art Deco influence in black accents, peacock blue, ruby red and creamy cashmere white. 4. Farm House Craft – Outdoor living, reclaimed materials and organic colors inspired by the garden.
