The first-ever British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) Retrofit Awards aimed to highlight the importance of making existing buildings more energy efficient rather than building new.
Nominees in the Sustainable Product Design category included Furniture Divas, Seed Homes, and Ege Carpets, and in the Retrofit Design category: Edward Bulmer, Oliver Heath, Marion Baeli/Paul Davis + Partners, and Sean Buick/Julian Harrap Architects.
The judging panel was composed of Alastair Fuad-Luke, Sustainable Design Enabler; Lucy Pedlar, Architect & Founder of the Green Register; Katy Lithgow, Head Conservator, National Trust; and Sally Storey, Design Director, John Cullen Lighting. The Awards will be presented by Wayne Hemingway, Designer & Founder of Hemingway Design and a leading figure in the environmental field.
Winners were announced at the Retrofit Conference that took place last week sponsored by GROHE.
