Bloomberg issues formal proclamation for Home Textiles Market Week
Dec 18, 2009

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has declared January 29-February 4 and August 13-19 “Home Textiles Market Week” in connection with the semi-annual market for mid-to-high-end home textiles in New York produced by the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF), 230 Fifth Avenue and 7 W New York. “We’re delighted with this official recognition of Home Textiles Market Week as a robust driver of economic benefit – to both New York City and to the home fashions industry,” said Dorothy Belshaw, New York International Gift Fair director and GLM senior vice president. “...the market is a great boon to the industry, and to the economic vitality of the City.” Bloomberg cited the economic benefit and integrity of the market, as well as the efficient partnership of the three market entities, in bestowing the Proclamation. Specific factors included: the market’s unique positioning as the nation’s largest collection of home textiles products; the evolution of industry business-to-business distribution channels which make New York City an essential destination; and the efficiencies created by a successful partnership between a temporary show and permanent showrooms. New York Home Textiles Market Week offers buyers access to more than 600 better bed, bath, linen and home products suppliers at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 94, 230 Fifth Avenue and 7 West 34th Street. Products represented include bed and bath fashions, table linens, kitchen textiles, towels, decorative accessories, area rugs, window treatments and decorative fabrics. The winter 2010 dates for Home Textiles Market Week are Friday, January 29, through Thursday, February 4.
