Blu Dot's Real Good Experiment (HFB)
Nov 5, 2009

Blu Dot has peppered New York City with 25 of its Real Good metal chairs as part of its latest marketing campaign called the Blu Dot Real Good Experiment. Inspired by city dwellers' penchant for both leaving and taking pieces of furniture on and from sidewalks, the company put its chairs throughout the city thinking they won't be left lying around very long and instead will be taken to a new home. There's a social media twist involved in the experiment, too. Each of the chairs has its own Twitter account and has been embedded with a GPS chip allowing online tracking in real time. The company has a link on its home page at for people to track the chairs' movements. Blu Dot organizers plan to contact the chairs' new owners to see if they'd participate in a film about the project. Today's experiment coincides with the year anniversary of the company's opening of its SoHo store last year.
