The deadline for the biennial New Practices New York, a juried portfolio competition that honors and promotes new and innovative architecture and design firms, has been extended to January 15.

AIA New York is seeking firms working within New York City that “embrace unknowns, cultivate new opportunities, challenge assumptions, and find new ways to leverage architectural thinking to shape the city.” Asks AIANY, “How are you shaping your practice around the prospect of the future? What are the most important challenges that you see facing the city over the next three months? In 30 years? What will you focus on? Where are you headed? How will you thrive?”

This year’s jury includes William Menking, editor-in-chief, The Architect’s NewspaperJulian Rose, principal, FormlessfinderJane Smith, AIA, IIDA, ASID, partner, SpacesmithMartino Stierli, the Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at MOMA; and Ada Tolla, partner, LOT-EK.

Winners receive: A stipend for an installation and exhibition at the Center for Architecture;  a one-year membership to AIA New York and access to its New Practices Committee; the opportunity to participate in a symposium at the Center for Architecture and give an individual lecture at the Cosentino/Dekton showroom; and a trip to Spain with competition underwriter Cosentino for an architectural tour of the firm’s global headquarters and manufacturing facilities.
