New York–based interior designer Charles Pavarini has been nominated for a BroadwayWorld Award for his set design for the Summer Theatre of New Canaan’s production of West Side Story, which ran this summer in Connecticut.

“This award is extremely meaningful to me, as it is confirmation of my skills in the world of theater,” says Pavarini. “Theater scenic design is another set of skills incorporating the designer’s knowledge of theater production and knowing the show and how the show should run and be presented. Scenic design assists in the viewer’s perception and understanding of the story and gives the story and the characters a sense of place. Any nomination or award of any kind, in any field, is recognizing one’s abilities in that field. I would be honored to receive this BroadwayWorld Award for my set design of the revival of West Side Story, as it would sit proudly among my previous 24 interior design awards.”

The designer is currently in discussions with the Summer Theatre of New Canaan to design sets for Chicago, Singing in the Rain and other shows.
