Christie's announces 'Country House Elegance' auction
Nov 11, 2011

Christie’s has announced the sale of Country House Elegance: An Architectural Vision on November 21 in New York. Acquired from Mallett at Bourdon House, London, the 150 lots showcase a range of pieces from the 17th to 20th centuries, all from a single private collection of a homeowner who wishes to remain anonymous.
One of the most extraordinary aspects of collection is that the collector chose each and every one of the pieces before he had a house in which to place them. The entire country house was designed around each object, displaying the courage, confidence, and vision of the collector, who created a modern interpretation of the grandeur of the Gilded Age. Many of the objects have illustrious provenances from some of the great country houses, including Hamilton Palace, Syon House, Baronscourt, Northumberland House, and Eaton Hall.

A Massive Irish William IV Mahogany Breakfront Library Bookcase by Williams And Gibton, Circa 1830 (Estimate: $80,000 - $120,000)
