Christie’s premieres new type of cross-category auction
Feb 18, 2016

Christie’s will soon launch First Open | New York, a cross-category auction meets digital sale with “accessible price points.” The categories are Post-War and Contemporary Art, Editions, Photographs, and Design. The sale started a decade ago as a single sale called First Open, due to the fact that it “opened” the Post-War and Contemporary Art season at Christie’s and was created just for welcoming new collectors. Today’s version is based on middle-market appeal for postwar and contemporary art, editions, furnishings and design.
