The design industry is ever-evolving with new and changing faces in manufacturing and retail, marketing and publishing, interior design and architecture and design organizations. Editor at Large is keeping tabs on people who are coming and going in this monthly column.
Pilar Viladas has joined Town&Country magazine as Architecture and Design Editor. She most recently served as T: The New York Times Style Magazine’s Design Editor. At T&C, Viladas will pen a monthly column and produce features throughout the year.
Michelle Adams resigned her post as the Editor in Chief of domino magazine. She moved to Michigan, where she recently purchased her first home, and will continue to collaborate with domino on special projects. Robert Leleux, currently domino’s Creative Director, is now the Editorial Director, heading up the print side of the business. Krissy Tiglias will lead the charge on the digital side as Digital Director of domino.com. She was formerly the Deputy Editor at realsimple.com.
Interior designer Sarah Richardson has joined Good Housekeeping as the Home Design Director. Richardson is the host and co-producer of five HGTV lifestyle series, a past contributor and columnist on design and style for The Globe and Mail and Chatelaine, and is the founder of Sarah Richardson Design Inc.
Emma Smith has joined the C&G (Cottages & Gardens) sales team as a Senior Account Manager. She brings over twelve years of sales experience to the publication. Smith previously worked in sales at the Economist, Wired and Gourmet.
Interior designer Tina Ramchandani has started her own design firm, Tina Ramchandani Creative. She was previously the co-founder of design firm Franklin Eighth, along with partner Sarah Sarna, who has also left the firm to focus on her lifestyle blog Live the Life you Dream About.
Architect David Rogers, FAIA, has joined P+R Architects as Design Principal, focusing on retail, commercial and mixed-use typologies. Rogers brings 40 years of experience concentrated in the revitalization of city centers globally.
Corporate interiors firm MKDA has added professionals at all levels to its New York and Stamford, CT offices. Newly hired senior team members include Director of Business Development Christina Coppotelli-Daly and Senior Project Managers Kurt Marin and Anitha Nayak.
IA Interior Architects (IA) has hired Project Director Don Porter, who comes from his own firm D.S. Porter Associates, Inc. He was previously at Nelson and RS&H.
ForrestPerkins has welcomed two new talents to its Washington, D.C. team. Sharon Bilbeisi, an NCARB-certified Senior Architect and Project Manager, and Denzil Martin, an NCIDQ-certified Interior Designer and Senior Project Manager.
Steven Stolman has been appointed Chief Marketing Officer of Gil Walsh Interiors effective immediately. Stolman, a resident of Palm Beach since 1995, most recently served as president of Scalamandre, the renowned textiles house.
Head designer of Duralee’s Highland Court brand Tamra McLeod has resigned. With changes underway in their in-house design studio, plans for the upcoming collection will be temporarily on hold. No replacement has been announced.
DEDON has appointed Donald Terrell to Managing Director of its US subsidiary. Prior to joining DEDON as operations director in May of 2010, Terrell spent eight years with Grass America and 13 years with US Airways.
Safavieh has promoted Edward Pantikian to Sales Manager of the Southeast region for the company’s wholesale rug division. He will be responsible for managing and developing business with retailers and designer showrooms within the territory, and promote Safavieh’s complete rug line.
Bernhardt Furniture has hired Regenia Payne as Upholstery Fashion Coordinator in the brand’s residential upholstery division. Payne most recently served as Creative Director and Product Developer for upholstery source Taylor King Furniture.
Roger Schlick has joined the Teknion Corporation as VP of Sales for its U.S. Division. Schlick has over 25 years of combined selling and sales management experience, including the past 14 in the contract furniture industry.
Création Baumann hired Ellen Shultz as the new Outside Sales Representative for New York City.
Maharam has appointed Dung Ngo as its Editorial Director, effective July 7. In this newly created position, Ngo will steward Maharam’s global identity with oversight of Maharam’s communications group and its in-house graphic design studio. Prior to joining Maharam, Ngo was Senior Editor of Architecture, Design and Fashion, then Creative Director, at Rizzoli Publications.
Robert Petril is the new President of Mod Mom Furniture. He will be responsible for steering Mod Mom’s lifestyle brand through the management of manufacturing partnerships, new designs and sales and marketing initiatives. Petril has previously served as VP for Natuzzi Americas, in addition to managing his own upholstered line, Robert Petril Designs.
Rug veteran Rita Karmiol has been named to the newly created position of VP of Business Development at Feizy Rugs. Reporting to Cameron Feizy, Senior VP, she will also focus on key accounts and assist in business growth across regional territories.
Nourison has named Steven Brandon Managing Director of its hospitality division. Prior to this position, Brandon served as an operations and business development consultant for Nourison for the past year. The company has also appointed two new account executives for the Southern California region—Dale Logie and Sheri Miller.
Havertys has hired a former Google Retail Industry Manager to lead its marketing efforts, taking over the duties from longtime company executive Thomas Curran, who is retiring.
Kimball Office has hired Mike Donahue as its new VP of Sales. Donahue came to Kimball Office from Geiger, International, Inc. where he was successfully leading teams since 1989.
