The design industry is ever-evolving, what with the arrivals and departures in manufacturing and retail, marketing and publishing, interior design and architecture, and industry organizations and design centers. Editor at Large is keeping tabs on who’s coming and going in this monthly column.
The Cottages & Gardens publications have added five new members to its team. Melissa Groher has been hired as Account Manager, she was previously at the Hearst Design Group; Virginia Crawford has joined the sales team as Account Director, she was previously at Elle Decor and Metropolitan Home; Diane Laster is the new Senior Account Director at SFC&G, and was formerly Luxury Sales Director at the Wall Street Journal; Rue Richey is the new Associate Publisher of SFC&G, and was most recently the Home Furnishings Director at Architectural Digest; and Roseann Brown has joined the Finance Department as Finance Manager, she was previously at Media Networks, a division of Time, Inc.
Since September, Dwell Media has been expanding its digital team and has hired five new employees. Madison Shoop has joined Dwell from the Hearst Corporation, where she most recently held the position of Associate Director of Integrated Marketing. She was appointed to head Dwell Media’s marketing efforts as Vice President of Marketing. In addition, with more than a decade of digital media experience and award-winning campaigns for Frito Lay, Quaker Oatmeal, and Bacardi, Shauna Margolis has joined the company as Digital Marketing Director; Bill Umbach comes to Dwell as the Director of Product Management, after spending the last decade working in New York, San Francisco and Boston for some of the top marketing agencies and brands in the digital space; Jessica Scholti brings a breadth of digital sales knowledge to Dwell in her position as Digital Sales Director; and Christina Gardner left New York for San Francisco to join Dwell as the Digital Operations Director.
Westchester Home magazine has brought in two new members to run the publication beginning in 2015. Jenn Andrlik is Westchester Home’s new Executive Editor and Nancy Soriano is the magazine's new Editor at Large. Andrlik was a Senior Editor at Martha Stewart Weddings and then at Martha Stewart Living specializing in home, holidays and crafts, an editor of HouseBeautiful.com, and a contributing and freelance editor with Better Homes & Gardens, Country Living and ElleDecor.com. She is currently the Editorial Director for the e-commerce site Rue La La.
AERIN has appointed Alessandro Fabrini President and Chief Executive Officer reporting directly to founder Aerin Lauder. Fabrini joins AERIN from Burberry, where he was Senior Vice President of Beauty, Watches and Eyewear, and served as a member of the executive management committee that doubled the company’s business. Prior to Burberry, he held global executive positions at Gucci, Bally and Bulgari, where he consistently achieved top results while growing brand equity.
Stark has appointed Haynes Robinson and Philip Costikyan to the company in executive positions. Robinson’s new role will be Vice President of Product Development, directly responsible for the design and development of both stock and custom area rugs. Most recently Robinson was a principal in the Atlanta-based firm Rugs by Robinson. Philip Costikyan joins Stark as the sales manager for the New York showroom. He comes to Stark with decades of experience both in product and sales management, as well as an unprecedented background in new and antique oriental rugs.
Longtime Lenox Executive Lou Scala has joined Nambé as Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President of Sales. He will be responsible for directing product development, sales and marketing activities across Nambé’s wholesale, retail and e-commerce channels. He reports to newly named CEO Bill Robedee.
Dennis Marton has replaced Scala as Senior Vice President of Marketing for all Lenox and Gorham brands. Marton, who reports to Lenox President Lester Gribetz, previously served as Vice President of Sales.
Sherie Chin, who was most recently a Sales Representative at Garrett Leather, is now the new Showroom Manager for Knoll Luxe, located in the Decoration and Design Building.
In addition, Knoll Inc. has appointed Christopher G. Kennedy to its Board of Directors. Kennedy serves as Chairman of Joseph P. Kennedy Enterprises, Inc., which is the investment firm of the Kennedy Family; he is responsible for the development of the Kennedy Family's real estate holdings in Chicago known as Wolf Point. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Interface, Inc., a floor covering company, and is a member of the Audit and Governance Committees for Ariel Investments Mutual Fund.
Brown Jordan International has promoted Vincent Tortorici Jr. to Executive Vice President, while he also remains Chief Financial Officer. Tortorici has been the CFO at Brown Jordan and its predecessors since 1988. Earlier, he was with accounting firm Arthur Andersen & Co. In addition, Jeff MacBeth has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations, a newly created position at Brown Jordan.
GROHE has appointed Jennifer Humphrey as Director of Hospitality. In this position, Humphrey will be responsible for developing the GROHE relationship with the top global hospitality brands headquartered in the U.S. Previously she has worked on building the hospitality divisions for Simmons Bedding, Assa Abloy and, most recently, Metrie.
Smith and Fong Co. has announced the appointment of Stacy Willard to the position of Chief Operations Officer. Willard, who joined the company in 2007 as inventory and logistics manager, has been instrumental in both shaping and organizing this area of the company’s operations.
Clive Daniel Home has hired Lindsey LaCroix as Sales and Marketing Account Manager. She has 15 years of experience in marketing to the hospitality and development industries, most recently as Membership and Marketing Director for Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club in Palm City, Florida. In addition, Richard Atkin has been added to the interior design team.
Online shopping site Gilt.com has appointed Clay Cowan as Chief Marketing Officer. He comes from Starwood Hotels and Resorts, where he served as the SVP of global digital, responsible for global strategy, management, and revenue for digital channels, including web, mobile, digital marketing and social.
QVC has promoted Ken O’Brien to Senior Vice President of Merchandising. O’Brien, who was previously Vice President of Merchandising, is now responsible for setting and executing QVC’s merchandising strategy for product brands across its categories, along with leading the engagement and management of QVC’s vendor community. He will continue to report to Doug Howe, Executive Vice President of Merchandising and Planning for QVC U.S.
Furniture manufacturer Astoria Compass has announced the appointment of a new sales representative, Heather Leidelmeyer. President of Samden Inc., an independent contract sales agency, Leidelmeyer possesses more than 16 years of sales and purchasing experience in the hospitality industry. Leidelmeyer will work with Astoria Compass to negotiate sales contracts in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas.
Small kitchen appliance manufacturer Sensio Inc. has appointed Jerry Rutigliano to its executive team as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. He has over two decades of experience in consumer electronics and consumer and commercial kitchen appliances.
Frank Ponterio Interior Design has appointed an in-house interior architect. David Pickert, AIA, LEED AP, has been named Director of Interior Architecture and will serve to facilitate the firm’s valued collaboration with architects, builders and developers in addition to providing added rigor and expertise to its full-service interior design capabilities.
The architecture and design firm ADD Inc. has promoted designer Eric Holland to Principal. Holland represents ADD Inc.’s Workplace Practice in Miami, Florida, where his leadership abilities have played a significant role in the expansion of the firm’s client base.
Baltimore-based Chambers, an architecture and interior design firm specializing in private country, golf, city and yacht clubs, announced the promotion of John Snellinger to corporate Vice President. He also retains his role as Director of Planning.
D.C.-based, architecture and design firm Studio3877 has welcomed new designer Andrew Rozzi to the team. With four years of experience designing multi-unit residential projects, Rozzi will work closely with lead project managers, applying his knowledge of layout, interiors and detailing to assist with both large and small projects.
Global architecture and design firm Callison has welcomed Ken Howell, who joins the company as Associate Principal in the Dallas office. Howell has more than 30 years of master planning, urban design, landscape architecture and managerial experience across domestic and international markets.
LMNOP has named its new executive officers, including President Jennifer C. Graham, Vice President Jack Weisberg, Executive Director Michelle Hill, Treasurer Marian Crawford and Secretary Elizabeth Sadoff.
International Market Centers announced that Tom Mitchell, President of Home Furnishings, will retire at the end of this year. Meanwhile, Scott Eckman has been promoted into a newly created position of Executive Vice President of Marketing and Furniture Leasing.
The World Green Building Council has announced that Chief Executive Officer Jane Henley will step down from the role in March. Henley was appointed CEO in February 2010. She was previously the founding CEO of the New Zealand Green Building Council, which she helped establish in 2005. Her replacement has not yet been announced.
