Danish Crafts, an organization dedicated to the promotion of Danish design, has appointed Kasper Salto and Thomas Sigsgaard as curators for its upcoming exhibition, MINDCRAFT13, at the Fuori Salone show in Milan, April 9- 14.
A combination of the words MIND and CRAFT is meant to reflect the fact that the exhibited works represent both exquisite craftsmanship and a philosophical aspect in the form of a message or an opinion.
"In MINDCRAFT13 we want to focus on the thoughts and influences that led to the works," said Salto and Sigsgaard. "We want to shed light on the process and convey the interesting stories behind the works. Giving the visitors insight into the creative process can be inspiring and make the exhibition a much greater experience.”
The pair took part in MINDCRAFT09, exhibiting the pendant lamp ‘Wet Bell', and in MINDCRAFT10 with the wall-mounted lamp ‘Yellow Fin.’ Wet Bell is now in production by the Italian lamp manufacturer Nemo, owned by one of Italy’s leading furniture manufacturers, Cassina.
Salto is a trained cabinetmaker and graduated as a designer from The Danish Design School in 1994. He is known in part for his many furniture designs for Fritz Hansen—including the chairs Ice and NAP.
Sigsgaard graduated as an architect from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in 1995. He has worked for PLH Arkitekter and Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter and has also had his own architectural firm.
In June 2011, the duo won the competition to design new furniture for the remodeling of the Trusteeship Council Chamber in the UN building in New York.
Danish Crafts is a national information center that aims to highlight, promote and increase turnover for Danish craft and design in Denmark and abroad.
