Day five report from NYIGF: Home Textiles
Feb 3, 2010

By Jolene Turner Now in day five, the buzz is still alive in the Home Textiles area of the At Home division at NYIGF. Here, shoppers peruse a wide variety of textiles from leading designers and manufacturers. “Big scale prints are in,” said John Robshaw of John Robshaw Textiles (www.johnrobshaw.com). He also noted that shades of lavender and gray are the colors of the moment. Robshaw’s top seller is Deccan, an ivory duvet with a floral print in a metallic gold. Deep browns, oranges, and vibrant burnt reds were a huge draw for interior designers, according to Federico Thilo Martens of Argentinean textile company Pehuen Patagonian Designs (www.pehuendesigns.com.) The company specializes in high-end wool throws inspired by the European influences in the southern part of Argentina. “White and silver are doing very well for us,” said Vikas Poddar of Sivaana (www.sivaana.com.) “Also, the glamour pieces because the designs are happy, fun, and very ‘wow’.” The company offers high-end pillows featuring Swarovski crystals and fashion-forward patterns such as an ivory damask outlined in gold metallic. Designers Guild (www.designersguild.com) was named Best of Market by a panel of magazine editors for its Watelet Duvet. Jennifer Nobis for the company said the duvet does well for them because it’s reversible, offering two looks at an affordable price. “One of the colors is a vibrant chartreuse, which buyers love,” she said. The Best New Product Award judges were: Tracy Bulla, senior product editor, Home Accents Today; Wanda Jankowski, editor in chief, LDB Interior Textiles; Jennifer Marks, editor in chief, Home Textiles Today; Katherine E. Nelson, freelance/contributor, LA Times; Julia Noran, managing partner, Editor at Large; and Abby Tabak, bed and bath editor, House Beautiful.
