“All of the work in the fair has a story and an identity,” says Alexandra Cunningham, Director of Exhibitions for Design Miami/. “These objects signify key moments and achievements in design history and tell the tales of their creators, owners, producers, and society in general. The galleries present museum quality pieces that will continue to be preserved and protected, and will have lives beyond the current moment.”
This year’s galleries specialize in historical design, along with a selection of galleries launching new work at the show. A number of designers whose work is being exhibited at Design Miami/ will also be in attendance with their representing galleries.
Design Miami/ is a platform for design galleries from all corners of the world. The selection standards and vetting process for exhibiting galleries results in a tightly edited, well-balanced mix of both historic and contemporary design.
“With each exhibition, dealers invite visitors into their own personal worlds of design,” says Wava Carpenter, Acting Director for Design Miami/. “Each display is cultivated through years of research and experience and offers a hand-picked selection of objects arranged in a way that offers a specialized perspective on individual works, the design movements from which they originate, or the interrelation of important pieces of design.”
