Brooklyn-based architectural firm Acconci Studio has been selected to receive this year's Designer of the Year at the upcoming Design Miami/ fair next month.
The Award recognizes an internationally renowned designer or studio that has made a mark on design history, pushing the boundaries of the discipline through a singularly innovative and influential vision.
Vito Acconci fit the bill, having demonstrated an acute and steadfast interest in generating unexpected and intense interactions, actively engaging both people and public places to explore the spectrum of human response.
An exhibition of Acconci Studio's work will be open to the public in the Miami Design District in conjunction with Design Miami/ 2012 and the plans for the future playground installation will be unveiled, which will be permanently installed by 2014.
Klein-Bottle Playground, as the structure is called, was originally developed for the humanitarian "Art for the World" program, as part of a touring exhibition of experimental recreational equipment and toys for refugee children. The installation will provide the first public area in the neighborhood dedicated to children.
Perrier-Jouët also has announced the creation of an exhibition by London-based designers Glithero, which will be on display at Design Miami/.
As part of its partnership with Design Miami/, Perrier-Jouët invited Glithero to create a new design in honor of the House’s Art Nouveau heritage. The result will be a unique piece presented in an experiential environment inspired by the curvilinear forms and natural motifs of Art Nouveau, a prominent theme at this year’s Design Miami/ fair.
This marks the first commissioned piece by Perrier-Jouët as part of its ongoing partnership with Design Miami/. In addition to the commissioned work, Perrier-Jouët will be the official champagne sponsor of Design Miami/ serving its Belle Epoque cuvee champagne within the Design Miami/ Collectors Lounge and select VIP events during the week of the fair.
Design Miami/ 2012 runs from December 5-9 in Miami Beach, FL. For a schedule of events and to register, click here.
