Design shows are proliferating on Youtube and new network affiliates such as Ulive. Old-fashioned TV shows are still going strong, but they’re geared more towards the mainstream than the high-end. Bravo has not announced what’s happening with Million Dollar Decorators or Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis (and Mary McDonald) but the industry’s fingers are crossed. In the meantime, this is a rundown of what you can expect for spring.
Nate Berkus and Monica Pedersen
Nate Berkus will host NBC's new one-hour reality competition series, American Dream Builders, premiering in March. Two teams of six will be asked to redesign and renovate a space from the inside out in just a few days. The challenge will be to create fresh, modern sensibility while remaining true to the home's design characteristics. Judges will be landscape architect Eddie George and interior designer Monica Pedersen. Berkus, George and Pedersen will determine which team has achieved the best results and one member from the losing team will go home.
HGTV shows House Hunters, House Hunters International, House Hunters Renovation, Property Virgins, You Live In What?, Love It or List It, Extreme Homes, Property Brothers and Renovation Raiders will release new episodes for spring.
The DIY Network’s Million Dollar Contractors with Stephen Fanuka and NBC’s George to the Rescue with George Oliphant are currently filming and will premiere new episodes later this year.
Five popular online do-it-yourself crafters have joined HGTV to launch the network’s first-ever YouTube channel, HGTV Handmade, featuring Marianne Canada, Meg Allan Cole, Karen Kavett, Ann Le and Julia Wycliff. They will each host a weekly how-to vlog that features DIY home décor projects as well as fashion and style tips. New videos will be posted six days a week.
Also on the web, HGTV has launched its “ULive” website which houses various videos from designers, tastemakers and industry professionals across the country and globe who have created and produced videos on their own with a unique style spanning numerous topics.
