Designers re-imagine Barbie’s Malibu Dreamhouse
Jun 3, 2013

On an international search for a new home, America’s most well known doll—Barbie—has attracted designers Lulu deKwiatkowski, Trina Turk and Celerie Kemble for inspiration on a newly designed home.
Each of the designers has created a rendering of a newly-imagined home for Barbie and in August the location of the new Dreamhouse will be revealed.
Here’s a look at the designs:

New York/Palm Beach-based interior designer Kemble has imagined Barbie as the ultimate career girl and chose to design Barbie’s pied-a-terre in Manhattan—moving the West Coast doll cross country. (Rendering by John Gibson).

West Coast fashion and home product designer Turk recognized that Barbie is a California girl at heart and envisioned a poolside cabana filled with bright colors and fabrics.

Los Angeles-based textile designer deKwiatkowski envisioned Barbie in India—the fantastical indoor/outdoor lifestyle in India would include vibrant printed fabrics with animal and floral motif wallcoverings.
