The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, today announced that Sir Nicholas Serota, Director of Tate, has become a member of his Design Advisory Panel. The Design Advisory Panel acts as a sounding board for the Mayor for both London-wide design strategies and high profile projects and schemes and advises both Design for London and Greater London Authority officers on championing design in major developments in London. Sir Nicholas is one of several new appointments the Mayor is making to the panel which he will confirm shortly. He joins current members, former RIBA President, Sunand Prasad; Chair of the English Heritage London Advisory Committee, Joyce Bridges; and Joint Chief Executive of the Argent Group, Roger Madelin. Together they will advise the Mayor on delivering design excellence across the capital. The Mayor also announced that Daniel Moylan has joined the Panel and will chair it from December, taking over from Sir Simon Milton, Deputy Mayor and Chief of Staff who has led the Panel’s work since it was established in 2008. Daniel is Deputy Chairman of Transport for London and also Chairman of the Mayor's newly created Public Realm Delivery Group responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Mayor’s commitments to improve London’s public spaces. “When I set up my panel just a year ago I said it was vital that we have a constant supply of new ideas and fresh thinking. Nick’s extensive knowledge of London and what makes it so extraordinarily successful will be vital in ensuring we make the right decisions now that continually improve the quality of life in our great city for generations to come,” said the Mayor of London Boris Johnson. "I am delighted that Sir Nicholas Serota has agreed to join the Mayor's Design Advisory Panel. He has been a tremendous champion of architecture and design and brings his wealth of experience to the role. I very much look forward to working with him," said Peter Bishop, London Development Agency Group Director for Design, Development and Environment.
