Dwell hand-selected 20 Bay Area designers and design manufacturers who have transformed an unfinished penthouse into an exhibition wonderland, bringing their most experimental inspirations and ideas to life: from hanging cloud installations to one-of-a-kind furniture and lighting to paintings by Applegate Tran created just for the event. This interactive exhbition known as Design Lab offers visitors one-on-one sessions and intimate discussion groups throughout the weekend where designers will break down their creative process and current projects.
The weekend features interior designers recently published in Dwell magazine's "Designers We Love" a special print edition circulated with its November issue to Bay Area subscribers and newsstands, as well as other Bay area favorites.
These designers include Applegate Tran, Kellee Adams, Barbara Scavullo, Reba Jones of Butler Armsden, Jiun Ho, David Mast, Michael Merrill, E.B. Min, Min Day, Larissa Sand of Sand Studios, Martine Paquin, Willem Racke, and Tres McKinney. Participating design manufacturers include Berkeley Mills, Caesarstone, Urban Lab, Rann Valdez Stone, and Fireclay Tile.
"We were looking for a new way to engage designers," said Dwell President Michela O'Connor Abrams, who spearheaded the creation of Dwell on Design with Dwell founder Lara Deam seven years ago, now the 2nd largest design event in America. "We were also looking for new ways for designers to engage with the public. The creative output has far exceeded our expectations."
This weekend-long event is open to the public, with proceeds going to the Junior League of San Francisco in honor of its 100th anniversary. O'Connor Abrams will kick off the event with an evening reception featuring wine by Kim Crawford Wines on October 28th from 7-9:30pm. Tastings of the 2011 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc and 2008 Kim Crawford Pinot Noir will continue throughout the weekend.
The opening reception takes place Friday October 28, 2011, 7:00-9:30 pm. Tours take place Saturday & Sunday, October 29-30, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Tickets $35 at the door or available online for purchase at www.hometour.jlsf.org.
