On the weekend of June 21-23, Dwell on Design (DOD) will re-imagine the tradeshow experience by creating a 200,000 s.f. design incubator where prefab will come to life and design luminaries will debate the issues of today at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
"Dwell on Design is a celebration of design ideas and inspiration," said Dwell Media President Michela O'Connor Abrams. "As the arbiter of modern architecture and design, Dwell Media brings inspiration through all its platforms to 2.1 million design-seekers who view us as their defacto guide to life in the modern world. Dwell on Design delivers on this promise in a live format leading with world-class content and engaging design experiences. As a result, our event stands out in its unique ability to act as the conduit through which designers, manufacturers, retailers and design-savvy consumers come together under one roof."
Dwell on Design 2012 show
Much like European trade shows, DOD’s 400 exhibitors are broken up into zones, taking visitors on a journey through constructed wonderlands such as Dwell Outdoor, the Tech Zone, the modern family lounge—as well as Furniture and Kitchen & Bath.

Exhibitors include Miele, Kohler, GE Monogram, Emeco and American Express as well as modern staples such as Resource Furniture, Marimekko and Urbio.
Furniture designer, craftsperson, and community activist Tanya Aguiniga will be DOD's first-ever featured artist-in-residence this year, bringing a living exhibition to the show floor upcycling furnishings that will then be donated to Los Angeles shelters.
Michael Graves will kick off the weekend as keynote speaker and focus his inspiring presentation on design, including how his philosophy and perspective changed due to a life-altering illness.
Continuing on three stages over three days, representatives from the Getty Conservation Institute, MOCA, LACMA, Sci-Arc, the MAK Center, Architecture for Humanity and The American Society of Interior Designers will host thought provoking and educational panels open to all attendees.
Other highlights of the show include the third annual Dwell on Design Awards, recognizing the best exhibits on the show floor; the ninth annual AIA/LA Restaurant Design Awards and the ASID Pinterest Pavilion that will showcase "pin-spiration" boards of the 10 winning designers from the "Pin to Win" competition.

The week will also include three self-guided tours of LA's most unique modern homes, specially selected by Dwell editors. Proceeds benefit Architecture for Humanity. This year, in addition to East Side and West Side, Dwell will explore Canyons and Valley. Dwell will also debut the Dwell Home Venice, the magazine's latest showcase home on the West Side Tour.
