Eames-inspired midcentury miniatures exhibit debuts
Feb 18, 2016

“Atomic Fusion: The Zen Artistry of Michael Yurkovic” will on exhibit at D. Thomas Fine Miniatures in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, from March 5 to May 1. Michael Yurkovic, an artist with the International Guild of Miniature Artisans, draws inspiration from industrial design, his career as a toy and game designer, and designers such as Charles Eames, Eero Saarinen, and George Nelson.

He uses materials including hardwood, molded plywood and vinyl, and processes that are characteristic of midcentury modernism and the atomic age, including crafting in metals and wires and thermoforming plastics.

Darren T. Scala, miniaturist and proprietor of D. Thomas Fine Miniatures, says, “I am excited to showcase Michael’s unique interpretation of the midcentury modern movement. His creation of classic MCM features are rarely seen of this quality in the world of fine scale miniatures.”

On March 5, Yurkovic will lead a Master Class where students will learn period design and create their own midcentury miniatures shadow box. Learn more.
