Conversations come to life in "E1027: Design for Living," a staged adaption of the discussions between architect-designer Eileen Gray and architect-critic Jean Badovici, which will be held at the Center for Architecture in New York City. The dialogue between the two partners, published in 1929 as "From Eclecticism to Doubt, in L’Architecture Vivante," reveals how the pair collaborated on a house with the code name, E1027.
Jean Badovici and Eileen Gray were partners in work and in love.
Actors Anne Priol and Mica Smadja will take on the roles of the team in a staged reading adapted by artist Elizabeth Lennard that explores early modern design principles, the relationship between home and landscape and climate, the harmony between interior and exterior, and the balance of architecture and emotion. The performance, which will run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on June 26, will cost $10 for AIA members and students with a valid ID and $15 for non-members. RSVP online here.
