Last Wednesday, the Washington Design Center, which recently moved to a new location in Franklin Court, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for 23 new fabric and furniture showrooms, and invited the Washington design community for a fall market to toast all the new spaces and collections.
Washington Design Center ribbon cutting
"Last week’s ribbon cutting was really the culmination of almost two years of hard work," said Matt Costigan of the MICHAEL-CLEARY showroom. "The entire process created a tightknit showroom community as we looked for a new home. Wednesday’s event was our official debut. We were proud to show off our beautiful new building in an unbeatable location and the sleek showrooms housed within, all of which are geared towards today’s market. It’s really energized our design community."

Notable attendees included interior designers Sandra Meyers, John Grammer, Emily Bishop and Carolin Schesbish.
Guests celebrating the official ribbon cutting
Throughout the day, other showrooms including Robert Allen and J. Lambeth hosted panel disucssions, while Stark and Hines & Co. invited guests for book signings by notable designers like Thomas Pheasant and Hunt Slonem.
“The fact that these showrooms worked together to bring a day of programming is extraordinary,” said Beth Greene, executive vice president, marketing and strategic branding for Kravet and a member of the Marketing Steering Committee for WDC. “With a team of marketing professionals leading this very first design center event we managed to create a day of captivating programming, a printed Design Center Directory and a celebration of what is to come for the D.C. design community."
