Glasstress answers the question through the works of over 50 international sculptors, painters, installation artists and designers who test and stretch the boundaries of glass and the way we look at contemporary art and design.
Among the featured artists are Domenico Bianchi, Joost van Bleiswijk, Barbara Bloom, Monica Bonvicini, Kiki van Eijk, Jan Fabre, Jaime Hayon, Michael Joo, Marya Kazoun, Oleg Kulik, Atelier Van Lieshout, Liu Jianhua, Vik Muniz, Atelier Ted Noten, Tony Oursler, Javier Pérez, Jaume Plensa, Bernardi Roig, Thomas Schütte, Kiki Smith, Mike + Doug Starn, Patricia Urquiola, Koen Vanmechelen, Fred Wilson, Erwin Wurm, Tokujin Yoshioka, Zhang Huan, and many others.
Promoted by the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) of New York and conceived and organized by Adriano Berengo, Glasstress 2011 is curated by an international cadre of curators including Lidewij Edelkoort of Holland, Peter Noever of Austria, Demetrio Paparoniof Italy, and with the contribution of Bonnie Clearwater of the United States.
First presented to critical acclaim in the Venice Biennale of 2009, this year’s Glasstress continues the artists’ exploration of glass, its possibilities and their visions.
The Double Vernissage takes place June 3 by invitation only, and the grand opening follows June 4 through November 27, Monday to Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
