Practice the art of heavy lifting, not to mention getting a full dose of inspiration, from an exciting roster of upcoming fall book releases. Once again, New York and California designers and firms fill the list.
Roman and Williams: Buildings and Interiors by Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer (Rizzoli, October). In their first book, the designers behind such cult hangouts as the Royalton lobby, Ace Hotel and Standard Hotels offer their tribute to craftsmanship and natural materials used in unexpected ways for industrial-meets-glamorous result. A forward by repeat client Ben Stiller sets the personal, not too serious tone.
Dazzling Design by Amanda Nisbet with Marc Kristal (Stewart, Tabori & Chang, September) includes 250 photographs of the designer's residential projects—apartments, country houses, and beach homes—inspiring readers to add color and flair to classic rooms. Her NYC-based firm is known for creating comfortably elegant rooms with a focus on color, texture and form.

Schafer shares his principles on the three cornerstones of creating a traditional home: architecture, landscape and decoration.
The Big Book of Chic by Miles Redd (Assouline, October) offers a rich look inside the designer's interiors which are definited by their glamour and drama. Portrait below by Cameron Krone.
Ann Getty: Interior Style (Rizzoli, October) by Diane Dorrans Saeks with photography by Lisa Romerin. Known for her mastery of traditional and classic styles, Ann Getty reveals how paying tribute to history can still offer a fresh approach to interiors today. Her first monograph, it's also a lesson in the art of layering periods and styles to bold, rich results.
Barbara Barry: Around Beauty (Rizzoli, October). The first book from California-based designer Barbara Barry captures her philosophy on beauty and how it translates to interiors. Learn her principles of good design, simplicity, proportion and harmony and be transfixed by the gorgeous, feminine details of the interior examples she shares.
Interiors | Atelier AM by Alexandra and Michael Misczynski (Rizzoli, September) captures the luxury-meets-organic sensibility of the duo behind L.A.-based Atelier A.M. that has attracted clients like Tom Cruise and Michael Eisner.
A Living Space by Kit Kemp (Hardie Grant, October). Kit Kemp is celebrated for the unstuffy, residential vibe at the Firmdale Hotels, which she runs with her husband Tim Kemp. Here she shares her approach, which mixes antiques and junk-shop finds with contemporary designs, layering patterns and textures and adding detail with simple objects. Close up and inspiring room shots along with her tips will help the reader execute the look at home.
Don't forget to check out some of the monographs coming from Monacelli which we previewed earlier this summer.
