Fall season heralds new NYSID programs, lectures

The New York School of Interior Design is kicking off the fall semester with a selection of programming and lectures. First on the docket is “Timeless Design: Vladimir Kagan & Amy Lau,” which will be held on Wednesday, September 30, at 6 p.m. Furniture designer Vladimir Kagan will discuss his work, which spans nearly seven decades, with interior designer Amy Lau and moderator and design editor Suzanne Slesin.

Next up is the Michael I. and Patricia M. Sovern Lecture on Design, which will be delivered by renowned architect Robert A.M. Stern, on Wednesday, October 7, at 6 p.m., with a reception to follow. Later in the month, “Look Inside: Hudson Yards” (Wednesday, October 28, at 6 p.m.), will afford attendees an inside look at new buildings to be opened next year in the new neighborhood on Manhattan’s far West Side.

This season, designer Angelo Donghia’s story takes center stage at the school, with the recent release of the documentary Angelo Donghia: Design Superstar (running through December 5), and the lecture “Deconstructing Donghia: Stories Behind the Legend,” which will host Donghia design director Chuck Chewning, designers Mario Buatta, Jamie Drake and Benjamin Vandiver in further discussion about the designer’s life and legacy.
