Dwell on Design L.A., the country’s largest design fair, premieres with Dwell Design Week from May 25 to 29, and the conference exhibition unfolds from May 29 to 31. The sheer numbers are staggering—400-plus exhibitors, 2,000-plus products, over 250 speakers and three days of continuing ed seminars—but the figures don’t tell the full story. May 29, 12 p.m. at the J Geiger Stage, Ehrlich Architects: from “House to Courthouse” will feature partners Takashi Yanai and Patricia Rhee discussing their firm's work.
May 29, 1 p.m. in room 304C at LACC: Kimberley Seldon, principal designer of the Kimberley Seldon Design Group, will discuss developing a policy on bookeeping in a talk called "Invoicing and Collecting Billable Hours."
May 29, 1 p.m. at the J Geiger Stage: "3-D Print and Architecture" will examine how 3-D printing impacts design and architecture with AIA architect Alvin Huang, the founder and design principal of Synthesis Design + Architecture, and Jenny Wu, founder and design director of the 3D-printed LACE jewelry collection, leading the course.
May 29, 3 p.m. at the J Geiger Stage: “Urban Infill and Small Spaces” with architects Apurva Pande, AIA, of CHA:col; Jeanine Centuori, principal and founder of UrbanRock Design and director of the Architecture of Civic Engagement (ACE) Center at Woodbury University; and Nathaniel Funk, of Vancouver-based Shape Architecture, discussing how to make the best of small living space projects.
May 30, 12 p.m. at LACC Stage A: "Historic Preservation and Adaptive Reuse" will investigate historic preservation and environmental concerns with architects Chava Danielson, AIA, and Eric Haas of DSH // architecture, who recently transformed a mid-century Los Angeles insurance building into a high school campus.
May 30 at 3 p.m. o, "A Return to Craftsmanship with Georgia and Micky Dolenz" will feature famous Monkee Dolenz and his daughter, who discuss their handmade wood furniture company.
May 30, 4:30 p.m. on Stage A: The fifth yearly Dwell on Design Awards will recognize exhibitors' work in 10 different categories, plus the newly launched Nice Modernist Award, honoring a recipient "who is making strides for the betterment of humankind through their work."

May 31, 12 p.m. at Stage A: "Be Original Americas: The Real Price of Knockoffs, a Panel," will address the importance of purchasing authentic design, with Stanley Felderman, owner of FKA Studio, Josh Mintz, who runs the Dwell Store, Jon Sherman, founder and owner of Flavor Paper, Jaime Derringer, founder of Design Milk and moderator Cory Grosser.
May 31, 12:30 p.m., Stage A: "The Water-Wise Home" with author and conservationist Laura Allen and Erika Heet, Los Angeles editor and editorial director of Dwell Media, will discuss simple gray water systems and other methods of making homes more "water-wise."
May 31, 4 p.m., on Stage A: Listen to musician and architecture blogger Moby discuss Los Angeles's many eclectic buildings.
Dwell Home Tours will take attendees on a tour through a selection of Los Angeles’s most architecturally significant homes, while Meet the Architects night introduces them to the architects behind the visionary residences.
Dwell Home Tours showcase the Dundee, Walker and Grandview residential projects.
