A dynamic group of women designers have joined to create an custom exhibition featuring bespoke original carpet designs. Malene b- Custom Handmade Carpets, Tania Johnson Design, The Nought Collective, Judy Ross Textiles and Amy Helfand will exhibit their work in Casa's New Furniture Showroom at an event next month.
"Our shared bond as independent, New York-based, female rug designers inspired this collaboration. The event showcases our individual and distinctive approach to interpreting a common theme as well our collective commitment to good contemporary design, quality and social responsibility," said Johnson. "Through this collaboration with other talented designers I have had the opportunity to exchange ideas and work with women I admire and respect."
Johnson's hand knotted rugs are textural and detailed interpretations of her photographs, capturing fleeting moments of nature through shadows, light and reflections. Produced in the traditional Tibetan weave, the intricate designs are achieved through combinations of meticulous color choice, high knot counts and blends of Himalayan wool, silk and pashmina. Every rug is GoodWeave certified.
"We decided to use trees as our theme, and the artwork for my rug began as photographs I took on a trip to the Smokie Mountains this summer. There is a Poplar forest represented, some roots and grasses as well. Most of my work is informed by landscape," said Helfand.
Attendees can take away an insight into the innovative work of this group of designers and a desire to bring the beauty of these handmade rugs to their own homes or those of their clients.
