FLOS wins prestigious Gio Ponti design prize
Jul 18, 2016

FLOS’s OK Lamp by Konstantin Grcic has won the Compasso d’Oro Award, dedicated to “an object that presents the evolution of an icon while maintaining its traditional elegance.”

OK Lamp

As Dezeen reported in 2013, “Created for Italian lighting brand FLOS, which has produced the Parentesi lamp since 1972, Konstantin Grcic’s OK lamp comprises a flat LED disc that slides up and down a steel cable and rotates 360 degrees. The design is an update of Castiglioni’s classic Parentesi lamp, itself a version of a 1969 concept by his friend Pio Manzù, who died before it could be realized.”

The Compasso d’Oro Award is an industrial design prize established in Italy in 1954 by La Rinascente based on the original idea by designers Gio Ponti and Alberto Rosselli. It was created to recognize and promote products and designs created in Italy. Among the other products recognized this year are Grivel’s Twin Gate carabiner and coffee company Caffè Morettino’s espresso pods.
