Jill Singer and Monica Khemsurov launched Sight Unseen (www.sightunseen.com), a new online magazine, which takes readers inside the worlds of design, art, fashion, food, photography, and other creative disciplines. Through revealing interviews, first-person accounts, and behind-the-scenes documentation of process, it uncovers the stories, inspirations, and obsessions of people who love to make things. More than a news blog, Sight Unseen’s interest lies not just in the end product, but in everything that contributes to its making. Sight Unseen’s highly visual stories are posted under several recurring feature types, including: Studio Visit, Factory Tour, Sketchbook, and 8 Things, for which the story subjects name 8 inspirations that influenced their work or a recent project. What They Bought catalogs souvenirs acquired on a research trip, or items a shopkeeper purchased for a new collection. Up-and-Coming interviews emerging talents about their interests, habits, and heroes. For Afternoon With, the writer accompanies the subject to an inspiring place, and then crafts a narrative about the experience. The site will also feature excerpts from books and exhibitions, personal city guides, and more. Founders Monica Khemsurov and Jill Singer are former editors of I.D. Magazine, as well as freelance writers, curators, and design consultants. Khemsurov is the author of a monthly design column for Details magazine, and a contributor to T: The New York Times Style Magazine, among others. Singer’s writing has appeared in New York, Print, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, V Magazine, and more. Both live and work in New York City. The site has been designed by Timko + Klick's Thomas Porostocky and Matthias Ernstberger. Porostocky was previously the art director at I.D. Magazine and Seed, and Ernstberger was art director at Sagmeister, Inc and the branding agency Lipman.
