Par Excellence, a group of French designers and makers, is opening a showroom in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood on Monday, January 4. Designed to serve interior designers, the two-story space will feature drapery, bedding, and furniture from Ateliers Charles Jouffre; sixth-generation trimmings and fabric by Declercq Passementiers; the straw marquetry designs of Lison de Caunes; and the fine art furniture, lighting and accessories of Ludwig & Dominique.
“In founding Par Excellence, my goal is to create a place shared by great French houses of luxury crafts that complement each other,” says founder Charles Jouffre, “and to promote them and eliminate any obstacles to the accessibility of their unique expertise in New York.”

Its members have worked on restoration and preservation projects at sites including Château de Versailles, Le Palais Garnier, The Frick Collection and Château de Fontainebleau. Additionally, each of the companies has received the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant designation, which is a French government mark of recognition of traditional and industrial skills.
