Wherever your next vacation takes you—if anywhere at all—you’re bound to be near a home or garden tour this summer. Over the next few months, design enthusiasts are invited to explore private spaces in New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Illinois, Maine, Washington State, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island—many of which have never before been available to tour.
Warwick Valley Gardeners Countryside Garden Tour (Warwick, NY)—June 28
The Warwick Valley Gardeners’ 21st annual tour features several acres of wilderness as well as a gardener’s cottage. The tour takes place from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, with a rain date of Sunday, June 29. Tickets are $15.
Westminster Cares Garden Tour (Westminster, VT)—June 28 & 29
Westminster Cares works with seniors and disabled adults in Westminster, Vermont, to help them remain healthy and independent in the community. Four gardens will be part of a tour to benefit the organization. Tickets are $15 a person, or $25 for two people. The tours take place from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29.
Hospice Home & Garden Tour (Wolfeboro, NH)—July 9
The 26th annual Hospice Home & Garden Tour will feature four homes, and will benefit the Central New Hampshire V.N.A. and Hospice foundations. Tickets are $40. The tour takes place from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9.
Downers Grove Garden Walk (Downers Grove, IL)—July 12
The 8th annual Downers Grove Garden Walk will give visitors an opportunity to view some of the most beautiful gardens in the area including the Finley Garden, the Lucas Garden, and the Elgass Garden, among others. All proceeds will benefit the DGFUMC Bridge Board in providing transitional housing and mentoring for homeless families. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 the day of. The tour takes place from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12.
Gardens in the Watershed Tour (Georges River, ME)—July 13
Each year, the Gardens in the Watershed tour offers visitors to the Georges River a look at a different section of watershed, giving the sense of diversity of the landscapes from Montville to Port Clyde. This year, seven country gardens in the middle of the watershed area are part of a self-guided tour to benefit the Georges Land Trust. Tickets are $25 in advance, and $28 the day of. The tour takes place from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 13.
Sheffield Garden Walk and Music Festival (Chicago, IL)—July 19 & 20
Much of the Sheffield neighborhood is a National Historic District, and is also home to four Chicago landmark districts: the McCormick Row Houses, the Armitage-Halsted commercial district, the Fremont Row Houses, and the newly designated Bissell Street Rowhouses. More than 100 neighborhood gardens will be on view throughout the two days. Tickets are $7 before 3:00 p.m., $10 afterwards. The tours will take place from 12:00 – 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20. Visitors are also invited on free walking tours at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Dearborn Garden Walk (Chicago, IL)—July 20
The 56th annual Dearborn Garden Walk offers a self-guided tour of 20 private gardens on the city’s Near North Side, as well as architecture along the Dearborn Parkway. This year’s garden vignette theme is “Bein Green.” Tickets are $30 in advance, and $35 the day of. The tour takes place from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20.
West Seattle Garden Tour (Seattle, WA)—July 20
The 20th annual West Seattle Garden Tour includes nine lush gardens, and all proceeds will benefit area organizations focused on gardens and the arts. Tickets are $18. The tour takes place from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20.
Garden Walk Buffalo (Buffalo, NY)—July 26 & 27
The Garden Walk Buffalo is a free, self-guided tour of more than 380 Buffalo gardens, the largest garden tour in America. Held annually on the last weekend of July, this year it will be Saturday and Sunday, July 26, and 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Mt. Gretna Tour of Homes (Mt. Gretna, PA)—August 2
This self-guided tour offers glimpses into the cottages and spectacular homes of historic Mt. Gretna. Tickets are $20 per person in advance and $25 per person the day of the tour. Children under 12 are $5. The tour takes place from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Secret Garden Tour (Newport, RI)—September 5 – 7
The Secret Garden Tour will explore private gardens and some of historic Newport’s most prestigious properties. The tour raises funds to support arts and cultural programs for Aquidneck Island public schools. Tickets $20 in advance, $25 the day of. The tours take place from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5; Saturday, September 6; and Sunday, September 7.
