At its annual board meeting last month, the High Point Market Authority (HPMA) approved a new slate of board members for a two-year term. New board members range from a previous High Point Market Style Spotter to an International Market Center executive, as well as various furniture manufacturers.
New members include Bruce Cohenour, senior vice president of Bassett Furniture Industries; Abe Elmore, founder of Elmore Furniture; Rod Lambeth, CEO of Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth Furniture; Julie Messner, vice president of Leasing, International Market Centers; William “Dudley” Moore, Jr., president of Otto & Moore; and Michelle Jennings Wiebe, president of Studio M Inc.

“We are happy to welcome our newest board and executive committee members,” said Tom Conley, president and CEO of the High Point Market Authority. “They will give us a strong representation for the many groups that have a stake in the High Point Market. We continue to build a board that better represents each constituent, from building owners and exhibitors, to retailers and designers, to city and county government.”
According to the Market Authority, the board’s role is to govern High Point Market and make executive decisions. They meet four times a year (including at Market in April in October) and also speak periodically on the phone.

The board is currently working on pressing issues regarding funding government affairs, and upcoming projects like the “Lotus” project between the City of High Point and IMC—the proposal for building a permanent stage beside the bus terminal that could rotate to face either the open green space in the park or the covered terminal.
The new board members join existing board members Doug Bassett of Vaughan-Bassett; Scott Eckman of IMC; Tim Ilderton of the High Point Chamber of Commerce; John Gunter of Home Comfort and Mattress Center; Heinz Kattenfeld of 220 Elm; Tim Mabe of the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau; Jeff Scheffer of the Universal Furniture International; and Bernita Sims, Mayor of the City of High Point. In all there are 14 voting members.
The board’s six-person executive committee, which acts at the nominating committee and sources and presents candidates to the board, consists of Bassett, Cohenour, Conley, Eckman, Scheffer and Sims.
The next High Point Market takes place April 18 – 23. Click here for more information.
