Earlier this month, the Architecture & Design Film Festival returned to New York City’s Tribeca Cinemas for a highly anticipated sixth season. Held during Archtober—NYC's month-long celebration of architecture—the five-day series presented a captivating lineup of 25 feature-length and short films, presented as 13 programs by Festival Directors Kyle Bergman and Laura Cardello.
The films took a global look at the people, places and movements directing and redefining not only architecture and design but also fashion, urban farming, the maker movement and other emerging and creative industries.

The Opening Night party on Wednesday, Oct. 15, was a star-studded event filled with filmmakers, designers, architects and critics, including actress Orla Brady, gallerist Sandra Gering, art collector Barbara Pine, architect Eugene Tssui, architecture critic Paul Goldberger, and Scavolini USA Creative Director Daniele Busca.

The event was also the world premiere of the Eileen Gray biopic, Gray Matters. As such, many people involved in the film were in attendance, including director Marco Orsini, filmmaker Mary McGuckian (the director of the upcoming narrative feature about Eileen Gray, The Price of Desire) and many of the experts interviewed in the film, like architecture professor Caroline Constant and curator Jennifer Goff.

Other highlights of this year's festival included the world premiere of Christiania—40 Years of Occupation, which gives a rare glimpse into Europe's oldest squatter community occupying an abandoned military base in Copenhagen; and the U.S. premiere of Cathedrals of Culture, a 3D film series that includes work by critically acclaimed filmmakers Wim Wenders and Robert Redford. The series uses architecture as the main narrator and explores the question, "If buildings could talk, what would they say about us?"

In addition to the films, the Architecture & Design Film Festival presented a series of intimate discussions with architects, designers, industry leaders and filmmakers during three panel discussions: Women in Architecture: Working at Every Scale, Why Gray Matters and Civic Place. Many of the filmmakers and producers—Marco Orsini, Eric Bednarski, Luciana Fina, Ultan Guilfoyle and Kyung Lee, among others—were also on hand for answering questions after the films.
