Craving a new page-turner? It’s November, which means it's time for a new list of book releases. No need to dash to the bookstore quite yet; Editor at Large has highlighted select books that have come out in September and October, and now offers a peek inside three making their debut just in time for the holiday season.
Interior designer Richard Mishaan believes that all furniture and decorative accessories with inherently good form can be combined successfully regardless of style, period or price. In his new book, Artfully Modern (The Monacelli Press), Mishaan’s favorite work created since 2009 is displayed, and includes a dozen spaces of every scale, from gemlike city apartments to Hamptons estates to the presidential suite at the St. Regis Hotel. Throughout, he weaves tips on how to live well in any size dwelling, while full-color photography illustrates his ideas for truly personalizing spaces and for injecting areas devoted completely to comfort in every room.
The first monograph from interior designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz, Suspending Reality (The Monacelli Press), tours more than 60 of Noriega-Ortiz’s projects, designed over his firm’s 20-year history. Lively chapters cover everything from how to evaluate an empty room to how to use a client’s Pinterest page to generate a storyboard, with tips for creating a sense of procession in an entryway or hall and using a mix of incandescent, LED, and even florescent lights for a fulsome lighting effect.
Tory Burch sees the world in color, inspired by people, places, and ideas—all of which influence her brand, which is synonymous with print and color. In her first book, Tory Burch In Color (Abrams), she explores what living in color means to her. The book is organized by color, each one brought to life through images of her own collections and travels. Also included: insight into how she entertains and the low-down on the style icons, artists, authors and interior designers she admires. There's even advice from business leaders—many of whom are interviewed within. Anna Wintour, Artistic Director of Condé Nast and Editor in Chief of Vogue, wrote the foreword, and 100 percent of the gross proceeds from the book will benefit the Tory Burch Foundation, which supports the economic empowerment of women entrepreneurs and their families in the U.S. through affordable loans, mentoring programs and entrepreneurial education.
