House Beautiful celebrates 120 years
Oct 24, 2016

Celebrating House Beautiful’s original 1896 publication date—and the fact that it’s the country’s longest-published title of its kind—the November 2016 issue delves into the shelter magazine’s 120-year history.

House Beautiful celebrates 120 years

In the editor’s letter for the anniversary issue, Editor in Chief Sophie Donelson reflects on her perusal of the archives: “What stuck with me weren’t the zany stories but the consistency of our approach. The decorating and entertaining wisdom, the passion for color. The way we nudged our readers to invest in their homes. The ideas, ideas, ideas!”

The issue, which hit stands last week, includes a kitchen retrospective, a spread featuring Anthony Baratta’s new furniture collection for Thomasville, and a “Best of the Best” catalog of signature looks, ranging from jute and sisal rugs to miniature pagodas and gourd lamps.
